First Large Self Portrait

This painting has been in development for some time, beginning when I was under the tuition of Henry Ward last year.

Recently finished and sold, this is the first in what is intended to become a series of five self portraits based on different mythologies.

Having just moved in to a new studio in Stroud, Gloucestershire I plan to start work on the next one very soon.

Ionesco Plays: Poster Image

Atelier Community Theatre hired me to design imagery for the advertising of their latest production, two plays by Eugene Ionesco. Directed by Vasile Nedelcu, the plays ‘The Chairs’ and ‘The Lesson’ will feature in the Camden Fringe Festival this August.

It’s been a real pleasure designing for Atelier. I had several ideas based on the research I did that showed Ionesco to be an absurdist playwright with a love of puppetry and grotesquery. The plays themselves are one-act pieces featuring people who struggle to make sense of the world, and can be horrendously cruel, but the stories are told with humour and surrealism. The group liked the ‘China Doll with Cracks, Glass and Newspaper’ image best so we went with that and here is the result.

I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing Corin and the others treading the boards in Camden. And thanks to Atelier for giving me the opportunity for such a fun project.

Meg: A Sketch in Acrylic

This sketch was part of the preparatory work for a portrait of Meg made last year. It’s been finished a little so the family can have it. I delivered it to Ireland this weekend, where I worked on it a bit more before handing it over. Meg says her favourite school subject at the moment is Art.

This painting was commissioned as a gift for a lover and owner of guinea pigs.

The language of Guinish and its translation on the painting come from a story about said guinea pig written by Rob Clucas-Tomlinson. So this could be considered a collaboration piece.
